CAS 122-99-6
:Phenoxyethanol
Description:
Phenoxyethanol, with the CAS number 122-99-6, is an aromatic ether commonly used as a preservative in cosmetics and personal care products due to its antimicrobial properties. It appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a faint rose-like odor. This compound is soluble in water, alcohol, and ether, making it versatile for various formulations. Phenoxyethanol is known for its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria, yeast, and mold, which helps extend the shelf life of products. It is generally considered safe for use in cosmetics at concentrations up to a certain limit, although some individuals may experience skin irritation or allergic reactions. Additionally, it has been evaluated for its safety in various regulatory contexts, including the European Union and the United States, where it is permitted in specific applications. Its chemical structure consists of a phenolic group attached to an ethylene glycol moiety, contributing to its functional properties in formulations.

CAS:
Phenoxyethanol is a preservative that is used in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. It is a glycol ether with a phenolic hydroxyl group that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. Phenoxyethanol has been found to be effective at concentrations between 0.1% and 1%, with an optimum concentration of 0.2%. It can be used as a disinfectant for wastewater treatment plants as well as in animal feedlots and animal housing facilities. Phenoxyethanol is also toxic to blood cells and can cause damage to cell nuclei when used at higher concentrations (>0.5%). The levels of phenoxyethanol in the environment are typically low (0.01 parts per billion).
Formula:C8H10O2Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:Colorless Clear LiquidMolecular weight:138.16 g/molEthylene Glycol Monophenylether pure, 99%
