:Sulfobromophthalein sodium
Description:
Sulfobromophthalein sodium, also known as bromothymol blue sodium salt, is a synthetic organic compound primarily used as a pH indicator in various applications, including biological and chemical research. It exhibits a distinct color change in response to pH variations, transitioning from yellow in acidic conditions to blue in alkaline environments. This characteristic makes it valuable for monitoring pH levels in laboratory settings. The compound is soluble in water, which enhances its utility in aqueous solutions. Structurally, it contains a sulfonic acid group, contributing to its solubility and ionic nature. Sulfobromophthalein sodium is often employed in clinical diagnostics, particularly in liver function tests, where it helps assess the excretory function of the liver. Additionally, it has applications in histology and microbiology for staining purposes. Safety data indicates that while it is generally considered low in toxicity, appropriate handling and disposal measures should be observed to mitigate any potential environmental impact.

CAS:<p>Sulfobromophthalein disodium salt hydrate is a fluorescent chemical that is used as a marker for renal function. It is most commonly used to assess the function of proximal tubules in the kidney and to assess the presence of cancer cells in various tissues. The uptake of sulfobromophthalein by the renal proximal tubules can be measured with an assay involving caco-2 cells. Multidrug resistance-associated protein (MRP) and other efflux pumps are expressed in these cells, which limits the amount of drug that can be absorbed into the cell. MRP also plays a role in multidrug resistance by pumping drugs back out of cells into the extracellular fluid, preventing them from being reabsorbed into circulation. This causes higher concentrations of drugs to accumulate inside the cell, leading to apoptosis.<br>Sulfobromophthalein has been shown to attenuate cancer progression, as well as reduce multidrug resistance</p>Formula:C20H8Br4O10S2·2Na·xH2OColor and Shape:White PowderMolecular weight:838 g/mol
