It binds to the RNA polymerase in a pharmacophore-based manner and inhibits its activity. When combined with other drugs, it has been shown to increase their efficacy. The combination of 3'-deoxy-3'-fluoroguanosine with interferon alpha 2b for the treatment of Hepatitis B has been shown to be more effective than either drug alone.
