CAS:Erythromycin ethyl succinate is an ester prodrug that is formed by the reaction of erythromycin and ethylsuccinic acid. It has a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Erythromycin ethyl succinate is also active against Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila, Helicobacter pylori, Leptospira interrogans, Bordetella pertussis, Rickettsia rickettsii, Borrelia burgdorferi, Coxiella burnetii, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae. Erythromycin ethyl succinate has been shown to be effective in treating streptococcal pharyngitis and tissue infections.
