CAS:Controlled ProductZamifenacin fumarate is a muscarinic receptor antagonist that is used to treat overactive bladder. It has been shown to be effective in functional studies using saphenous veins and ileal loops in rats. Zamifenacin fumarate binds to the muscarinic M1 receptor, which is responsible for contraction of smooth muscle in the bladder wall. In guinea-pig trachea, zamifenacin fumarate has been shown to reduce the frequency of contractions induced by acetylcholine and histamine. This drug also binds to muscarinic receptors on bladder urothelium and inhibits the release of chloride ions from these cells, which results in increased urinary output. Zamifenacin fumarate competes with arecaidine for binding to muscarinic receptors, but has a lower affinity than arecaidine.
