Cyhexatin

Description:
Cyhexatin, with the CAS number 13121-70-5, is an organotin compound primarily used as a pesticide and acaricide in agricultural applications. It is characterized by its ability to control a variety of pests, particularly mites, on crops. Cyhexatin is a colorless to pale yellow solid that is relatively stable under normal conditions but can degrade under extreme environmental factors. Its mode of action involves disrupting the nervous system of target pests, leading to their mortality. The compound is lipophilic, allowing it to penetrate biological membranes effectively. However, cyhexatin is also known for its potential environmental persistence and toxicity to non-target organisms, including aquatic life, which raises concerns regarding its use and regulation. Safety measures are essential when handling cyhexatin, as it can pose health risks to humans and animals. Due to its environmental impact, many countries have imposed restrictions or bans on its use, prompting the search for safer alternatives in pest management.

  • Cyhexatin

    CAS:

Cyhexatin is a potent and selective inhibitor of the mitochondrial cytochrome bc1 complex, which is crucial for energy production in all aerobic organisms. Cyhexatin inhibits electron transfer by binding to the copper site of cytochrome bc1, blocking ubiquinol oxidation. This drug has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in vitro and in vivo with hemolytic activity against human erythrocytes, making it a promising candidate for antibiotic development. Cyhexatin was found to be more potent than dibutyltin oxide (DBTO), an inhibitor of the mitochondrial cytochrome bc1 complex that is currently being evaluated as an antibiotic.
