CAS:Vanadium oxide is a chemical compound. It has the chemical formula VO and has a phase transition temperature of approximately 250 degrees Celsius. Vanadium oxide is used in the manufacture of vanadium steel, which is resistant to corrosion. Vanadium oxide also emits light when heated, and can be used as an optical sensor for detecting gases such as ammonia and ozone. It can also be used in laser ablation for removing material from surfaces that are difficult to reach by other means. Vanadium oxide may have applications in medicine for chronic bronchitis due to its high resistance to oxidation and its redox cycle. Zirconium oxide (ZrO2) is an alternative material that can be used instead of vanadium oxide because it has a higher melting point (1200 degrees Celsius). Zirconium oxide can also emit light when heated, but does not have the same ability to detect ammonia or ozone as vanadium oxide does.
