CC 0651 has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activities of ubiquitin ligases in vitro and in vivo, leading to cancer cell death. This anticancer activity may be due to its ability to inhibit the ubiquitin-proteasome system, which is required for protein degradation and DNA repair. In addition, CC 0651 is a potent inhibitor of lysine residues and is able to cross the cell membrane due to its amide group.
