Remifentanil is a potent opioid analgesic that is used for anesthesia. It is an ester of 4-(methoxycarbonyl)-4-[(1-oxopropyl)phenylamino]-1-piperidinepropanoic acid methyl ester hydrochloride and has a rapid onset, short duration of action, and low potential for accumulation.
