:(3,4,5-Trimethoxyphenyl)acetonitrile
Description:
(3,4,5-Trimethoxyphenyl)acetonitrile, with the CAS number 13338-63-1, is an organic compound characterized by its phenyl ring substituted with three methoxy groups at the 3, 4, and 5 positions, along with an acetonitrile functional group. This compound typically appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid or solid, depending on its purity and form. It is known for its moderate polarity due to the presence of the acetonitrile group, which can influence its solubility in various organic solvents. The methoxy groups enhance its electron-donating properties, potentially affecting its reactivity and interactions in chemical reactions. This compound may be utilized in organic synthesis, particularly in the development of pharmaceuticals or as an intermediate in the production of other chemical entities. Safety data indicates that it should be handled with care, as with many organic compounds, due to potential toxicity and environmental impact. Proper storage and handling protocols are essential to ensure safety in laboratory settings.

CAS:
3,4,5-Trimethoxybenzyl cyanide is a natural product that has been shown to inhibit the polymerase of bacterial RNA and DNA. It binds to the active site of the enzyme and prevents its function. The mechanism of 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl cyanide is similar to that of other inhibitors of bacterial RNA polymerase such as quinacrine and actinomycin D. This compound has also been shown to prevent fibrillation in vitro. 3,4,5-Trimethoxybenzyl cyanide has antiarrhythmic properties. It blocks the mitochondrial membrane potential by inhibiting the synthesis of ATP. This inhibition leads to an increased permeability of the mitochondrial membrane for ions such as potassium and calcium. The increased permeability leads to a decrease in cellular excitability and a decrease in cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats).
Formula:C11H13NO3Purity:Min. 97 Area-%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:207.23 g/mol2-(3,4,5-Trimethoxyphenyl)acetonitrile
