3,9-Dihydroxy-8-methoxy-[1]benzofuro[3,2-c]chromen-6-one is a cardiac glycoside that binds to the myocardial cell membrane. It binds specifically and reversibly with the hydroxyl group of phospholipids in the cell membrane, inhibiting the transport of ions across the membrane and thus preventing depolarization. 3,9-Dihydroxy-8-methoxy-[1]benzofuro[3,2-c]chromen-6-one has been shown to have a neutralizing effect on atrial and ventricular muscle cells. This drug also has clinical relevance in treating cardiac arrhythmias due to its ability to inhibit sodium ion channels.
