Rac N,O-Didesmethyl venlafaxine is a racemic mixture of the two enantiomers of venlafaxine. Rac N,O-Didesmethyl venlafaxine is used for the treatment of depression and other psychiatric disorders. Rac N,O-Didesmethyl venlafaxine is metabolized by glucuronidation to form the glucuronide conjugate, which is excreted in urine. Rac N,O-Didesmethyl venlafaxine has been shown to have a stereoselective effect on ventricular dysfunction in mice with heart failure. It also has a high affinity for opioid receptors and can cause drug interactions with other drugs that are opiate receptor agonists such as codeine or tramadol.
