1,2-Bis((2S,5S)-2,5-diethylphospholano)benzene is an optically active organic compound. It is used as a chiral ligand in asymmetric catalysis. The ligand is prepared by the reaction of 2,5-diethylphosphonobenzene with sodium periodate and chloride under solvothermal conditions. This compound is soluble in ethylene and hexane and has a boiling point of 53.8°C at atmospheric pressure. It can be crystallized from chloroform solution or from methanol solution with addition of hexane. 1,2-Bis((2S,5S)-2,5-diethylphospholano)benzene has been shown to be effective in the catalytic asymmetric synthesis of cyclic compounds such as 1,4-dihydropyridines (1).
