N5-Methyllamotrigine is a potent inhibitor of voltage-gated sodium channels. It is also an activator of the GABAA receptor and can be used as a research tool to study ligand-receptor interactions. N5-Methyllamotrigine has been shown to be a high-potency inhibitor of voltage-gated sodium channels, with IC50 values in the low nanomolar range. The drug has also been reported to act as an activator of the GABA(A) receptor, with potency up to 10 times that of GABA itself, and it can also be used as a research tool for studying ligand–receptor interactions.
