Dichloro(ethylenediamine)platinum(II)

Description:
Dichloro(ethylenediamine)platinum(II), with the CAS number 14096-51-6, is a coordination compound of platinum featuring ethylenediamine as a bidentate ligand. This compound typically appears as a yellow to orange solid and is soluble in polar solvents. It exhibits a square planar geometry, which is characteristic of many platinum(II) complexes. The presence of the ethylenediamine ligand allows for chelation, enhancing the stability of the complex. Dichloro(ethylenediamine)platinum(II) is of interest in medicinal chemistry, particularly in the development of anticancer agents, as it can interact with DNA and inhibit cell division. Its reactivity is influenced by the platinum center, which can undergo various ligand substitution reactions. Additionally, the compound's properties can be affected by factors such as pH and the presence of other coordinating species. Safety precautions should be taken when handling this compound, as platinum complexes can be toxic and may pose environmental hazards.

  • Dichloro(ethylenediamine)platinum(II)

    CAS:

Dichloro(ethylenediamine)platinum (II) is a platinum-based anticancer drug that is used in the treatment of ovarian cancer. It binds to the phosphate group of DNA and forms a chelate ring with the DNA. This inhibits the cellular function of the DNA, preventing replication and transcription. The dichloro(ethylenediamine)platinum (II) molecule has two possible stereoisomers: cis-dichloro(ethylenediamine)platinum (II) or trans-dichloro(ethylenediamine)platinum (II). The cis form is more active than the trans form, but both are equally effective in inhibiting DNA synthesis. Dichloro(ethylenediamine)platinum (II) also reacts with chloride ions to form an ion pair complex that is taken up by cells. This complex disrupts cell metabolism and leads to apoptosis.
