:Ferrous fumarate
Description:
Ferrous fumarate is an iron salt of fumaric acid, commonly used as a dietary supplement to treat or prevent iron deficiency anemia. It appears as a reddish-brown powder and is characterized by its relatively high solubility in water compared to other iron salts, which enhances its bioavailability. The chemical formula for ferrous fumarate is C4H4FeO4, indicating it contains both iron in the ferrous (Fe²⁺) oxidation state and fumarate ions. This compound is known for its ability to provide a source of elemental iron, which is essential for the synthesis of hemoglobin and various enzymatic processes in the body. Ferrous fumarate is generally well-tolerated, though it may cause gastrointestinal side effects in some individuals, such as constipation or nausea. It is often preferred in formulations due to its lower risk of causing oxidative stress compared to other iron supplements. As with any supplement, it is important to use ferrous fumarate under medical supervision, especially in individuals with underlying health conditions or those taking other medications.

CAS:
Ferrous fumarate is an oral iron supplement that is used in the treatment of iron deficiency. Ferrous fumarate has been shown to be effective in reducing disease activity in infants with Crohn's disease. The low-dose group showed significantly less severe bowel disease than the high-dose group. Ferrous fumarate has also been shown to reduce oxidative stress, which may be due to its antioxidant properties. It is also used as a pharmacological agent for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy, skin cancer, and other diseases. It is metabolized by hydrolysis of the ferric ion by esterases or glucuronidases and oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes or glutathione reductase.
Formula:C4H2FeO4Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:169.9 g/molRef: 4Z-I-273
