5,6-Dichloro-(1-b-D-ribofuranosyl) benzimidazole 3',5'-cyclic monophosphothioate, Sp-isomer sodium salt is a cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase inhibitor that is used as a diagnostic agent in hyperproliferative diseases. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of the α subunit of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases and to increase intracellular calcium levels in cells by blocking cation channels. 5,6-Dichloro-(1-b-D-ribofuranosyl) benzimidazole 3',5'-cyclic monophosphothioate, Sp-isomer sodium salt has also been shown to inhibit the release of vasoactive intestinal peptide and dopamine from detrusor muscle.
