2,3,4,5-Tetrahydro-1-benzoxepin-5-amine is an allylic substitution reagent that is used for the chemoselective functionalization of trichloroacetimidates. The reaction is mediated by a palladium catalyst and produces ethyl 2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1-benzoxepin-5-yl acetate as the major product. This process has been shown to be thermally assisted by metathesis reactions between the olefinic bond of ethyl 2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1-benzoxepin-5-yl acetate and tetraalkoxyaluminium derivatives.
