:Dimethyl isophthalate
Description:
Dimethyl isophthalate (DMI) is an organic compound classified as an aromatic diester, specifically a dimethyl ester of isophthalic acid. It is characterized by its colorless to pale yellow liquid form, with a slightly sweet odor. DMI is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone but has limited solubility in water. The compound is primarily used as an intermediate in the production of polyesters and resins, making it valuable in the manufacturing of plastics, coatings, and fibers. Its chemical structure features two methyl ester groups attached to the isophthalic acid backbone, which contributes to its reactivity and utility in polymer chemistry. DMI is known for its thermal stability and resistance to hydrolysis, making it suitable for various industrial applications. Additionally, it is important to handle DMI with care, as it may pose health risks upon exposure, necessitating appropriate safety measures in its use and storage.

CAS:
Dimethyl isophthalate is an organic compound that belongs to the class of phthalates. It is a colorless liquid that has a strong odor and can be used as a plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, and other plastics. Dimethyl isophthalate can be detected in vitro within 12 hours after exposure by bacterial growth on nutrient agar plates supplemented with sodium carbonate. It was found to inhibit bacterial growth by binding to the hydroxyl group of ribose and deoxyribose. This inhibition leads to reduced levels of dibutyltin oxide and polycarboxylic acid subunits, which are important for the formation of cell walls in bacteria.
Formula:C10H10O4Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:194.18 g/mol
