:nitrosonium tetrafluoroborate
Description:
Nitrosonium tetrafluoroborate is an inorganic compound with the formula NOBF4. It is characterized by the presence of the nitrosonium ion (NO+) and the tetrafluoroborate anion (BF4-). This compound is typically encountered as a colorless to pale yellow solid and is known for its strong oxidizing properties. Nitrosonium tetrafluoroborate is highly soluble in polar solvents, making it useful in various chemical reactions, particularly in the field of organic synthesis. It can act as a nitrating agent, facilitating the introduction of nitro groups into organic molecules. Due to its reactivity, it must be handled with care, as it can be hazardous and may pose risks of explosion under certain conditions. The compound is often used in research settings to explore its potential applications in materials science and organic chemistry. Its stability and reactivity can be influenced by factors such as temperature and the presence of other chemical species.

CAS:
Nitrosyl tetrafluoroborate (NTBF) is a sodium salt that has been shown to be an oxidation catalyst. NTBF reacts with diazonium salt to produce a nitro group and a tetrafluoroborate anion. The mechanism of the reaction is not well understood, but it is thought to involve the formation of a methyl glycoside intermediate. Nitrosyl tetrafluoroborate can also react with metal carbonyls such as ferrocene, producing hydrogen fluoride and inorganic acid. In vitro synthesis of NTBF starts with the reaction of hydrogen fluoride with potassium bicarbonate or ammonium carbonate.
Formula:BF4•NOPurity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:116.81 g/mol
