CAS:o-Nitrocinnamaldehyde is an aldehyde that belongs to the group of β-unsaturated aldehydes. It has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth in vitro and in vivo. o-Nitrocinnamaldehyde inhibits xanthine oxidase by preventing the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine and xanthine to uric acid. This prevents the formation of superoxide radicals, which are known carcinogens. The compound also inhibits aldehyde dehydrogenase, which prevents the oxidation of nitro compounds that have been generated by nitrosation reactions.
