CAS:<p>Atorvastatin is a drug used for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and cardiovascular diseases. Atorvastatin lactam, which is an impurity formed during the synthesis of atorvastatin, has been shown to inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis in a rat model. The in vivo metabolism of atorvastatin lactam was studied by HPLC-MS/MS and was found to be identical to that of the parent molecule.
