CAS:<p>Lithium iron phosphate is a chemical compound with the empirical formula LiFePO4. It is a lithium-containing salt that is used as an additive in the production of glass, paper, and steel. Lithium iron phosphate is prepared by mixing lithium hydroxide, phosphoric acid, and iron(III) oxide together at high temperature. The reaction mechanism consists of three steps: hydrolysis, formation of lithium phosphate (Li3PO4), and precipitation of FePO4. The particle size distribution was found to be dependent on the reaction time. A model system was developed to study the effect of sodium carbonate on the thermal decomposition process. The activation energies for reactions between Li3PO4 and Na2CO3 were found to be 33 kJ/mol for the endothermic reaction and 13 kJ/mol for the exothermic reaction.
