CAS:Controlled ProductNorephedrine hydrochloride is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the enzyme activities of bacteria. It has been shown to reduce the growth of bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotics, including penicillin and erythromycin. Norephedrine hydrochloride has also been used in combination with other drugs such as phenylpropanolamine and guaifenesin for relief from cold symptoms. This chemical binds to human serum albumin and can be detected by a reaction mechanism that utilizes caproic acid (a fatty acid) as a hydrogen acceptor. Thermodynamic data obtained from the analysis of this drug-enzyme complex indicated favorable binding properties, with a dissociation constant of 3 x 10 M at room temperature. Intramolecular hydrogen bonding interactions may also contribute to its stability.
