:8-Hydroxy-1H-quinolin-2-one
Description:
8-Hydroxy-1H-quinolin-2-one, also known as oxine, is an organic compound characterized by its quinoline structure, which features a hydroxyl group at the 8-position and a carbonyl group at the 2-position. This compound is known for its chelating properties, allowing it to form stable complexes with various metal ions, making it useful in analytical chemistry and biochemistry for metal ion detection and extraction. Oxine is typically a pale yellow crystalline solid that is soluble in organic solvents but has limited solubility in water. It exhibits fluorescence, which can be utilized in various applications, including fluorescence microscopy. Additionally, oxine has been studied for its potential biological activities, including antimicrobial and anticancer properties. Its ability to form complexes with metals also makes it relevant in environmental chemistry for the analysis of heavy metals in samples. Safety considerations should be taken into account, as it may pose health risks upon exposure or ingestion.

CAS:
Quinoline-2,8-diol is a bacterial strain that can be used to remove fatty acids from wastewater. The recombinant cytochrome P450 in this strain can degrade fatty acids, which are carcinogenic and have been shown to cause hepatic steatosis. In addition, the quinoline-2,8-diol strain has shown an ability to inhibit xenograft tumor growth in mice by activating cytochrome P450 and inducing apoptosis. This bacterial strain also has the potential to produce xanthurenic acid from tyrosine. Xanthurenic acid is toxic and has been shown to inhibit polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of DNA. Quinoline-2,8-diol may be used as a model for experimental studies of xanthurenic acid's effects on energy metabolism and DNA synthesis.
Formula:C9H7NO2Purity:Min. 95 Area-%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:161.16 g/mol
