1-Fluorocyclopentanecarboxylic acid is an analog of choline that has been found to be useful in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of bladder cancer. It is synthesized from the 1-fluoro-2,2-difluoroacetic acid and the chloroacetic acid. The synthesis of 1-fluorocyclopentanecarboxylic acid can be achieved by reacting the chloroacetic acid with a mixture of ammonia and phosphorous oxychloride. This analog has also been used for diagnostic purposes in bone lesions, as well as for cancer detection.
