1-Adamantylcyanamide is a trimethyl triazine that has been shown to be a blocker of glutamate receptors. It has been studied in animal models of schizophrenia and depression, where it showed potential as an antipsychotic and antidepressant. 1-Adamantylcyanamide blocks the NMDA receptor in the brain by binding to the glycine site. This prevents the passage of chloride ion into the cell and causes hyperpolarization of the membrane, which may lead to inhibition of neuronal activity. It also inhibits the acid catalyst introduced into tuberculosis cells, which can prevent their growth. 1-Adamantylcyanamide can also be used to form trimers with other molecules, such as cyanuric acid or 3-indoxyl-beta-D-galactopyranoside, respectively.
