Azathioprine impurity B has been shown to inhibit kinases, which are enzymes that play a key role in cell signaling pathways that regulate cell growth and survival. This inhibition induces apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in cancer cells. Azathioprine impurity B is also a potent inhibitor of nifedipine-sensitive calcium channels, which may contribute to its anticancer activity by disrupting intracellular calcium signaling.</p>
