:Benzenesulfonic acid, 2,4,6-trimethyl-, hydrazide
Description:
Benzenesulfonic acid, 2,4,6-trimethyl-, hydrazide, with the CAS number 16182-15-3, is an organic compound characterized by its sulfonic acid and hydrazide functional groups. This compound features a benzene ring substituted with three methyl groups at the 2, 4, and 6 positions, which contributes to its hydrophobic characteristics and influences its reactivity. The presence of the sulfonic acid group imparts strong acidity and enhances solubility in polar solvents, while the hydrazide moiety can participate in various chemical reactions, including condensation and hydrazone formation. This compound is typically used in organic synthesis and may serve as an intermediate in the production of dyes, pharmaceuticals, or agrochemicals. Its physical properties, such as melting point and solubility, can vary based on the specific conditions and purity of the sample. Safety precautions should be observed when handling this compound, as it may pose health risks if ingested or inhaled.

CAS:
2,4,6-Trimethylbenzenesulfonohydrazide is a hydrazide that has been shown to have the ability to reduce the level of vitamin D3 in the body. It binds with chloride ions and hydroxyl groups on furan rings and hydrogenates them. This reaction leads to an increase in the amount of 2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulfonic acid (2,4,6-TMS) and a decrease in vitamin D3. The physiological activity of 2,4,6-TMS is unknown; however it has been shown to react with sodium hypochlorite to form hydroxyl radicals. Hydroxyl radicals are known for their strong oxidizing properties and can be used in medicine as antibiotics. Hydroxyl radicals also react with cyclic compounds like phenols or amines leading to alkylation reactions that may lead to DNA damage or cancer cell death.
Formula:C9H14N2O2SPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:214.29 g/mol2,4,6-Trimethylbenzenesulfonohydrazide
