CAS:2,4-Diaminopyrimidine-5-carbonitrile (2,4-DAP) is a potent inhibitor of the bacterial enzymes d-alanine:glyoxylate aminotransferase (dAGAT) and d-alanine:pyruvate aminotransferase (dAPAT). These enzymes are involved in amino acid metabolism and are potential targets for anticancer therapy. 2,4-DAP has inhibitory properties against cancer cells and has been shown to lead to apoptosis in cervical cancer cells. It also inhibits the synthesis of cellulases by binding to the catalytic site of these enzymes. 2,4-DAP is an inhibitor that binds to the enzyme model protein DnaA at a site that is different from its native substrate ATP. This binding prevents ATP from binding to the protein, inhibiting DNA replication and transcription.
