CAS:Phenyl 4-hydroxybenzoate is a chemical compound that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It is prepared by reacting phenol with 4-hydroxybenzoic acid in the presence of boron nitride to produce phenyl 4-hydroxybenzoate. Phenyl 4-hydroxyphenoxyacetate has been shown to be effective against bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter cloacae. Phenyl 4-hydroxybenzoate has been shown to have a matrix effect on nucleophilic groups, which can be used for sample preparation before analysis using chromatography or spectroscopy. This compound has also been shown to be effective against fungi such as Aspergillus niger, Penicillium notatum, and Mucor rouxii at concentrations of 500 μg/mL.
