    <p>5-Fluoro-1-(2'-deoxy-2'-fluoro-3',5'-di-O-benzoyl-b-L-arabinofuranosyl)-uracil (5FUA) is a monophosphate nucleoside that inhibits viral replication. It is phosphorylated by the viral enzyme 3' to 5' exonuclease and then acts as a competitive inhibitor of the natural substrate, diphosphate, at the active site of DNA polymerase. The result is inhibition of viral DNA synthesis and replication. 5FUA has been shown to be active against a variety of viruses including herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, varicella zoster virus, influenza A virus, and human immunodeficiency virus type 1. This drug has also been shown to inhibit cancer cell proliferation in vitro.</p>
