:1,2-O-Isopropylidene-α-D-glucofuranose
Description:
1,2-O-Isopropylidene-α-D-glucofuranose is a carbohydrate derivative, specifically a protected form of α-D-glucofuranose, which is a monosaccharide. This compound features a furanose ring structure, characterized by a five-membered ring containing four carbon atoms and one oxygen atom. The isopropylidene group serves as a protecting group for the hydroxyl functionalities, enhancing the stability and reactivity of the molecule during synthetic processes. Typically, this compound is utilized in organic synthesis, particularly in the preparation of glycosides and other carbohydrate derivatives. Its chemical properties include solubility in polar solvents, and it may exhibit specific optical activity due to its chiral centers. The presence of the isopropylidene group also influences its reactivity, making it less susceptible to hydrolysis compared to unprotected sugars. Overall, 1,2-O-Isopropylidene-α-D-glucofuranose is an important intermediate in carbohydrate chemistry, facilitating the study and manipulation of glycosidic bonds and other carbohydrate-related reactions.

CAS:
1,2-O-Isopropylidene-a-D-glucofuranose (IPDF) is a natural compound that has been isolated from the leaves of the plant Cinnamomum camphora. IPDF has been shown to have biological properties such as inhibiting hl-60 cells and inducing apoptosis in leukemia cells. The metabolic rate of IPDF was studied in isolated hearts and it was found that the compound slows fatty acid oxidation. The enzyme substrate specificity of IPDF was also tested by adding trifluoroacetic acid, which yielded no reaction.
Formula:C9H16O6Color and Shape:White Off-White PowderMolecular weight:220.22 g/mol
