    <p>(R,R)-Hydroxy bupropion is a drug that acts as a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor. It has been used in the treatment of depression and smoking cessation. The hydroxybenzene moiety can be used to determine the enantiopurity of (R,R)-hydroxy bupropion by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. This method is based on the assumption that the retention time of (R,R)-hydroxy bupropion will be longer than that of its (-) enantiomer. The elimination rate and formation rate are dependent on the plasma protein α1-acid glycoprotein. The elimination half-life for (R,R)-hydroxy bupropion is about 12 hours in humans with an average weight of 70 kg. It has been shown to interact with other drugs such as fluoxetine, which may cause serotonin syndrome.</p>
