Thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine-4-carboxylic acid is an antimicrobial agent that has been shown to be effective against both aeruginosa and pseudomonas. The compound inhibits the synthesis of RNA by binding to the ribosomes and inhibiting protein synthesis. Thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine-4-carboxylic acid has also been shown to inhibit the growth of Streptomyces coelicolor, a bacterium used in the production of antibiotics. This compound can be accessed through carbonylation reactions with various amides. The most efficient method for synthesizing this compound is a combinatorial approach which utilizes a number of different methods to access it.
