Fmoc-D-Gln(Mtt)-OH is a chiral, homologous protonated amino acid that has been synthesized. The configuration of the proton has not yet been determined and postulated as either R or S. The reagent can be used to probe the configuration of the proton by determining its chemical shift in a series of experiments. This compound is synthesized from D-glucamine and Mtt, which are both commercially available compounds. Fmoc-D-Gln(Mtt)-OH is easily soluble in organic solvents, such as ethanol, methanol, and dichloromethane. It is also stable under acidic conditions.
