CAS:2-Bromobenzonitrile is an organic compound with a molecular formula of C6H5BrN. It is a precursor to the quinazolinones, a class of drugs used to treat autoimmune diseases and coronary heart disease. This substrate molecule undergoes a palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction to form an aromatic ring. The light emission from this reaction can be seen in the reaction solution. Anhydrous sodium reacts with 2-bromobenzonitrile to produce nitrobenzene and hydrogen gas, which are then reacted with hydrochloric acid to produce salt and water vapor. The nitrogen atoms in 2-bromobenzonitrile are also used as reactants in reactions with halides such as bromine or chlorine, producing alkyl bromides or chlorides as products. In addition, 2-bromobenzonitrile can be used for the Suzuki coupling reaction.
