PDE9-IN-(S)-C33 is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor that is used in the treatment of heart diseases such as cardiac hypertrophy. PDE9-IN-(S)-C33 inhibits the activity of phosphodiesterase (PDE) type 9, which breaks down cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). This leads to an increase in intracellular cGMP levels and an inhibition of cardiac hypertrophy. PDE9-IN-(S)-C33 also has a beneficial effect on neonatal rat cardiomyocytes, which may be due to its ability to inhibit transition from hyperplasia to hypertrophy.
