It is a potent corticosteroid and has been shown to inhibit the growth of microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi. Fluperolone acetate does not cross the blood-brain barrier into the central nervous system, so it can be used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases in the eye without affecting vision. This drug also has been shown to reduce choroidal neovascularization in patients with age-related macular degeneration.
