:2,4-dimethylaniline hydrochloride
Description:
2,4-Dimethylaniline hydrochloride is an organic compound that belongs to the class of anilines, which are aromatic amines. It is characterized by the presence of two methyl groups attached to the benzene ring at the 2 and 4 positions, along with an amino group (-NH2) that is protonated in its hydrochloride salt form. This compound typically appears as a white to off-white crystalline solid and is soluble in water due to the presence of the hydrochloride, which enhances its solubility compared to the free base form. It has applications in various fields, including dye manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and as an intermediate in organic synthesis. The compound exhibits basic properties due to the amino group, allowing it to participate in various chemical reactions, such as nucleophilic substitutions. Safety precautions should be taken when handling this substance, as it may pose health risks, including skin and respiratory irritation. Proper storage in a cool, dry place away from incompatible substances is also recommended to maintain its stability.

CAS:
2,4-Dimethylaniline hydrochloride is a nitrogen containing compound that can be found in the environment. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria and fungi. The mechanism of 2,4-dimethylaniline hydrochloride is through the transfer of electrons from cytochrome c oxidase to molecular oxygen (O2). This electron transfer results in the oxidation of 2,4-dimethylaniline hydrochloride and the reduction of molecular oxygen (O2) to water (H2O). 2,4-Dimethylaniline hydrochloride also has a basic structure with two nitrogen atoms that are able to form intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions. The matrix effect may have an impact on the analytical method used for this compound. The kinetic studies were done at low temperature and high concentrations. Solid phase microextraction was used as an analytical method for this compound. Coordination geometry was not discussed in this article
Formula:C8H11N·HClPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:157.64 g/mol
