Its primary mode of action is as a potent and selective inhibitor of RNA polymerase II, an essential enzyme responsible for mRNA synthesis in eukaryotic cells. By binding tightly to RNA polymerase II, epsilon-amanitin disrupts the transcription process, ultimately hindering protein synthesis and leading to cell death.
