4-Bromo-2-methyl-1,3-benzoxazole is a cyclization reaction product of palladium acetate and 4-bromo-2-methylbenzoic acid. It can be used as a substrate for the synthesis of benzoxazoles, which are biologically important heterocyclic compounds. The 4-bromo derivative is an intermediate in the synthesis of biologically active molecules such as pyrazinones, benzothiazoles, and other heterocycles. This process can be catalyzed by palladium acetate and yields a 96% yield with this method.
