:Sodium heptanesulfonate
Description:
Sodium heptanesulfonate is an organic compound characterized by its sulfonate functional group, which imparts significant solubility in water and makes it an effective surfactant. It is a sodium salt of heptanesulfonic acid, featuring a long hydrophobic hydrocarbon chain (heptane) and a hydrophilic sulfonate group. This amphiphilic nature allows it to reduce surface tension and stabilize emulsions, making it useful in various applications, including detergents, wetting agents, and in biochemical assays. Sodium heptanesulfonate is often employed in the field of chromatography, particularly in ion-exchange processes, due to its ability to interact with charged species. It is generally considered to have low toxicity, but like many chemical substances, it should be handled with care, following appropriate safety guidelines. Its stability under a range of pH conditions and temperatures further enhances its utility in laboratory and industrial settings.

CAS:
Heptanosulfonic acid sodium salt is a chemical reagent that is used in the analysis of human serum and urine samples. It can be used for the determination of monoamine neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. The linear calibration curve was determined using piperidinium as an internal standard. The assay is based on a fluorescence detector with excitation wavelength at 340 nm and emission wavelength at 515 nm. The sample preparation consists of adding hydrochloric acid to the sample to dissolve protein and then adding sodium carbonate to precipitate out the acidic components. Heptanosulfonic acid sodium salt reacts with the acidic components to form a yellow color complex that absorbs light at 515 nm. This reaction can be inhibited by adding a base such as bicarbonate or ammonium hydroxide to neutralize the acidic component before adding heptanosulfonic acid sodium salt.
Formula:C7H15NaO3SPurity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:202.25 g/mol
