:(-)-Chlorpheniramine maleate
Description:
(-)-Chlorpheniramine maleate is an antihistamine commonly used to alleviate allergy symptoms, such as sneezing, runny nose, and itching. It is a salt formed from chlorpheniramine, a first-generation antihistamine, and maleic acid. This compound exhibits anticholinergic properties, which can lead to side effects such as drowsiness, dry mouth, and dizziness. (-)-Chlorpheniramine maleate is typically administered orally and is known for its relatively rapid onset of action. The substance is characterized by its ability to selectively block H1 histamine receptors, thereby reducing the physiological effects of histamine in allergic reactions. It is often found in combination with other medications in over-the-counter cold and allergy formulations. The compound is soluble in water and has a molecular weight that reflects its complex structure. As with many antihistamines, caution is advised when using this medication, especially in conjunction with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants, due to the potential for increased sedation.

CAS:
(R)-Chlorpheniramine maleate is a selective H1 receptor antagonist that has been shown to have an anti-allergic effect. It is a cholinergic agent and also blocks the action of histamine at other receptors. Chlorpheniramine is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and excreted in urine mainly as metabolites. In humans, chlorpheniramine reaches peak plasma concentrations within 1 hour after oral administration and has an elimination half-life of 4 hours. The drug binds to plasma proteins with low affinity (30%) and may cause interactions with drugs that are also bound to plasma proteins, such as potential interaction with calcium antagonists and other cholinergic agents.
Formula:C16H19ClN2•C4H4O4Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:390.86 g/mol
