It is used in the synthesis of β-amino acids, which are precursors for peptides and proteins. 4-Bromo-L-phenylalanine has been shown to be an acceptor for the enzyme diacetate and it inhibits tryptic activity at low concentrations. 4-Bromo-L-phenylalanine has also been shown to be a potent antagonist of acid dehydrogenase from endophytic fungus.
