:2,3-Dihydroxybenzaldehyde
Description:
2,3-Dihydroxybenzaldehyde, also known as o-aminobenzaldehyde, is an organic compound characterized by the presence of both aldehyde and hydroxyl functional groups on a benzene ring. It features two hydroxyl groups located at the 2 and 3 positions relative to the aldehyde group, which is situated at the 1 position. This compound typically appears as a white to light yellow crystalline solid and is soluble in polar solvents such as water and alcohols due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds. The presence of hydroxyl groups enhances its reactivity, making it a useful intermediate in organic synthesis, particularly in the production of dyes, pharmaceuticals, and other fine chemicals. Additionally, 2,3-dihydroxybenzaldehyde exhibits antioxidant properties and can participate in various chemical reactions, including oxidation and condensation reactions. Its unique structure and functional groups contribute to its diverse applications in both industrial and research settings.

CAS:
2,3-Dihydroxybenzaldehyde is a chemical compound that has been shown to have antimicrobial properties. It inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the ribosome and preventing mRNA synthesis. 2,3-Dihydroxybenzaldehyde binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit and prevents protein synthesis by inhibiting the transfer mechanism of tRNA from the A site to the P site on the ribosome. The drug also inhibits mitochondrial superoxide production in V79 cells and human serum.
2,3-Dihydroxybenzaldehyde has been shown to be effective against methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA) strains but not against Group P2 Staphylococcus aureus (GPA).
