    1-Adamantylmalonic acid is a hydrolytic impurity of the drug adamantine, which belongs to the class of anti-inflammatory drugs. It has been shown that 1-Adamantylmalonic acid can be produced by hydrolysis when piperidine is added to a reaction solution containing malonic acid and an alicyclic compound with a constant structure. The responsiveness of 1-Adamantylmalonic acid to light has been determined in several experiments. It has been shown that this impurity is stable, but it is more sensitive to light than adamantine. Optical properties have also been studied and it was found that 1-Adamantylmalonic acid absorbs in the ultraviolet region and fluoresces at wavelengths between 300 and 320 nm.
