    Spiramycin III is an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the 16S ribosomal RNA of the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, which prevents the attachment of amino acids to the elongating peptide chain. Spiramycin III has been shown to be active against a wide range of bacteria, including strains of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The levorotatory form is more potent than the dextrorotatory form and has a greater inhibitory effect on protein synthesis. Spiramycin III also has an inhibitory effect on inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and asthma.
