CAS:cis-Propenylphosphonic acid is a diamine tetraacetic acid (DTA) analog that is used as an antibiotic. It is a potent inhibitor of fatty acid biosynthesis and has been shown to be effective against antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. cis-Propenylphosphonic acid reacts with phosphotungstic acid, which binds to the carboxylic acid group of the bacterial cell membrane, thereby inhibiting fatty acid synthesis. This chemical also inhibits the growth of gram-positive bacteria by binding to the polycarboxylic acid moiety on the bacterial cell wall and interfering with the hydrogen bond network.
