:Fospropofol disodium
Description:
Fospropofol disodium is a prodrug of propofol, primarily used as an anesthetic agent. It is characterized by its ability to be converted into propofol in the body, providing a means of sedation with a potentially smoother onset and offset of action compared to propofol itself. The substance is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is soluble in water, which facilitates its administration via intravenous injection. Fospropofol disodium is known for its rapid onset of sedation and a favorable safety profile, making it suitable for procedural sedation. Its pharmacokinetics involve metabolism primarily in the liver, where it is hydrolyzed to release propofol. The use of fospropofol disodium is associated with a lower incidence of pain on injection compared to propofol, although it may cause transient side effects such as paresthesia. As with any anesthetic, careful monitoring is essential during its use to manage potential respiratory depression and other adverse effects. Overall, fospropofol disodium represents an important option in the field of sedation and anesthesia.

CAS:Controlled Product<p>Fospropofol is a general anaesthetic drug used in the treatment of insomnia, agitation and anxiety. It is also used as an adjunct to anesthesia for certain procedures such as colonoscopy or gastroscopy. Fospropofol binds to voltage-gated potassium channels, increasing the duration of potassium channel opening, which leads to hyperpolarization of neurons and inhibition of neuronal firing. This inhibition leads to sedation and muscle relaxation. Fospropofol also binds with high affinity to GABA receptors, leading to increased chloride flux into neurons and hyperpolarization. This results in reduced levels of acetylcholine at synapses, which induces sleepiness. The binding affinity for GABA receptors is much higher than that for voltage-gated potassium channels, so it is thought that GABA receptor binding may be responsible for the sedative effects seen with fospropofol administration.
